Android FOREGROUND_SERVICE
Google Play: Mandatory Prominent In-App Disclosure
Before background data collection begins, a prominent disclosure is required

Google Play policy requires apps that access data in the background (camera, location) to display an in-app prominent disclosure that clearly states which data is accessed, how it is used, and how it is shared — before collection starts. This disclosure must appear inside the app during normal use, not buried in menus, settings, or privacy policies.

Optidrive's Required In-App Disclosure (first-launch dialog)
"Optidrive uses your camera and LiDAR sensor in the background to detect hazards and deliver audio safety alerts while you drive — even when the screen is off. GPS is used to tag incident recordings stored on your device. No video or location data is uploaded. Tap Allow to enable safety monitoring."
Consent must be obtained via affirmative user action (tap/checkbox). Navigation away from the dialog is never treated as consent.

App Store Publishing Requirements

Complete breakdown of every Apple App Store Review Guideline, privacy rule, and technical requirement that applies to Optidrive — sourced from developer.apple.com.

App Store Review Guideline 5.1 — Privacy
Mandatory compliance for every iOS app
5.1.1(i) — Privacy Policy (Mandatory)

All apps must link a privacy policy in App Store Connect AND within the app itself (easily discoverable). The policy must clearly state:

What data is collected, how, and all uses
Third-party sharing (analytics SDKs, ad networks) — and that they provide equal data protection
Data retention and deletion policies
How users can revoke consent and request data deletion
Cannot be a PDF — must be an active, publicly accessible URL
5.1.1(ii) — Permission Consent (Mandatory)

Every data collection requires user consent. Apple requirements:

NSUsageDescription string must clearly describe the actual use (not vague)
Users must have an easy way to withdraw consent at any time
Paid features CANNOT be gated on granting data access (no "pay wall for privacy")
Cannot manipulate, trick, or force consent
Must provide alternative solution when permission denied
5.1.1(iii) — Data Minimization

Apps may only request data that is directly relevant to core functionality:

Use out-of-process pickers and share sheets when possible (no direct access)
Request only what the feature genuinely requires
Optidrive: Camera/LiDAR for collision detection (required), Location for geotag (optional), Motion for impact detection (required)
5.1.1(v) — Account Deletion (Mandatory)

If an app supports account creation, it must also provide in-app account deletion:

In-app account deletion mechanism required
Must revoke social login credentials from within the app
Cannot store login credentials or tokens off-device outside direct connection while in use
Cannot require personal info unless directly required by the feature or by law
5.1.2 — Data Use & Sharing

Strict limits on how collected data may be used:

Cannot repurpose data collected for one purpose without additional explicit consent
Cannot build user profiles or identify anonymous users from collected data
HealthKit / HomeKit / LiDAR facial mapping data cannot be used for marketing or data mining
Must use App Tracking Transparency APIs if tracking users across apps/sites
Cannot gate app functionality on granting tracking permission
5.1.5 — Location Services

Location data rules from App Store Review Guidelines:

Only use location when directly relevant to core features
Must notify and obtain consent before collecting, transmitting, or using location
Explain purpose within the app itself (purpose string + in-app explanation)
Cannot be used for emergency services determination or autonomous vehicle control

App Tracking Transparency (ATT)
iOS 14.5+ · Mandatory API for user tracking
Optidrive status: ATT prompt NOT required

ATT is required when an app links user or device data from its app with data from other companies' apps, websites, or offline properties for advertising or measurement — or shares data with a data broker.

Optidrive does not access the IDFA, does not share data with advertising networks, and does not combine data across apps or websites. No NSUserTrackingUsageDescription key is required in Info.plist.

ATT is NOT required for:
✓ On-device data linking without sending identifying info off-device
✓ Fraud/security data sharing only
✓ IDFV analytics within apps from the same developer

Privacy Manifests (Required from 2024)

Apple now requires all apps and third-party SDKs to include a PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy file declaring accessed APIs and their reasons. Apps that use "Required Reason APIs" (file timestamps, system boot time, disk space, user defaults, keyboard extension) without a declared reason will be rejected.

PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy included in Optidrive app target

UIBackgroundModes & Background Entitlements

Optidrive requires background execution for screen-off safety monitoring. These modes must be declared in Info.plist and justified to App Review:

audio — required for screen-off TTS alert delivery via AVAudioSession
location — required for background GPS incident geotag
processing — for CoreML inference scheduling in background
App Review requires justification for each background mode. Demo video showing screen-off alerts firing recommended in review notes.
App Store Review: Key Prohibited Actions That Affect Optidrive
Cannot claim device sensors (camera, LiDAR, motion) do medical-grade measurements without regulatory clearance — Guideline 1.4
Cannot run unrelated background processes (crypto mining) — Guideline 2.4
Cannot use facial recognition data from LiDAR for advertising or profiling — Guideline 5.1.2(vi)
Cannot display in-app ads within extensions, widgets, or notifications — Guideline 4.4

Privacy Policy

Our full privacy policy — plain language, no legalese.

Effective: 1 May 2025  ·  Last Updated: 1 May 2026  ·  Optizence Technologies, Japan

Optizence Technologies ("we", "us", "our") operates the Optidrive mobile application available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use Optidrive.

This policy applies to all users of Optidrive worldwide. Where regional laws (GDPR, CCPA) grant additional rights, those are described in dedicated sections below.

By using Optidrive you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

2a. Data collected and processed entirely on your device (never uploaded):

  • Camera video frames — analyzed in real time by the OptiModel AI engine for hazard detection. Frames are not stored; only incident clips (triggered by safety events) are saved to your device.
  • LiDAR depth maps — used to measure precise distance to objects ahead. Processed in memory; not stored or transmitted.
  • Microphone — used for audio alert output routing only. No audio from the environment is recorded at any time.
  • Accelerometer & gyroscope — used to detect hard braking, sharp turns, and impact events (8G threshold). Raw sensor readings are not stored; only event metadata (timestamp, severity level) is retained.

2b. Data stored locally on your device:

  • Incident video clips — recorded when a safety event is detected. Stored in your device's photo library. You control deletion.
  • GPS coordinates — attached to incident clips for geolocation. Stored on-device with the clip.

Device ID (Pro)NoYes (encrypted)Until unsubscribe

We use your information only for the following purposes:

  • Real-time safety detection — Camera and LiDAR data are processed on-device to detect hazards and generate audio alerts. This is the core purpose of the app.
  • Incident recording — When a safety event is detected, the preceding 30 seconds of video plus GPS coordinates are saved to your device.
  • Crash recovery and bug fixing — Anonymous crash logs help us identify and fix software bugs.
  • AI model improvement (federated) — Model updates are trained without access to your data. Gradient updates from your device use differential privacy — we never see individual data.
  • OTA model delivery (Pro) — Your device ID is used to authenticate delivery of monthly model updates.
  • Legal obligations — We retain anonymized records as required by Japanese law for financial and accounting purposes.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, behavioral targeting, or sale to third parties — ever.

Optidrive does not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Data sharing is limited to the following cases:

  • Service providers — We use Firebase Crashlytics (anonymized crash data only, under DPA). No personal data is shared.
  • OTA update infrastructure — Encrypted model files are delivered via signed CDN. No user data leaves your device in this process.
  • Legal requirements — We may disclose data if required by a valid court order, subpoena, or mandatory government request. We will notify you within legally permitted limits when this occurs.
  • Business transfer — In the event of a merger or acquisition, your data will be transferred only with the same privacy protections. You will be notified in advance and given the option to delete your account.

What we never do:

  • Share data with advertising networks
  • Share data with insurance companies (without your explicit written consent)
  • Sell data to data brokers
  • Include third-party tracking SDKs in the app
Third-Party SDK Compliance (Google Play Requirement)
Google Play holds developers responsible for all data practices of third-party code (SDKs, libraries) embedded in the app — regardless of whether data is transmitted from the app or from the SDK provider's servers. Optidrive has audited all included SDKs:

Firebase Crashlytics — Anonymized crash data only. Data Processing Agreement (DPA) in place. No personal data, no advertising. Compliant with Play User Data policy.
Apple Neural Engine / CoreML — On-device only. No data leaves the device. Not a third-party SDK under Google Play's definition.
No advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs, no social login SDKs are included in Optidrive.
EU Data Privacy Framework (Google Play Requirement)
For personal information originating in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, Optidrive complies with all applicable privacy and data protection laws. Anonymous crash data processed by Firebase Crashlytics (US-based) is transferred under Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission. We notify Google at data-protection-office@google.com if our ability to comply with these obligations changes.

You have the following rights over your data at all times:

  • Revoke permissions — Any permission can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings or Android App Permissions. Core safety features continue to work with reduced functionality.
  • Delete incident recordings — Delete any clip directly from your device's photo library or from within Optidrive.
  • Opt out of anonymous diagnostics — Toggle off in Settings → Privacy → Share Diagnostics.
  • Request data deletion — For any data on our servers (crash logs, device ID for Pro), email privacy@optidrive.io or use Settings → Privacy → Delete My Data. Processed within 30 days.
  • Data portability — Request an export of any data we hold about you in JSON format. Delivered within 30 days.
  • Access your data — Request a summary of all data we hold about you.
Account Deletion (Google Play Mandatory Requirement)
Google Play policy requires apps with accounts to provide a readily discoverable in-app option to delete the account and its associated data. Temporary deactivation or disabling of an account does not satisfy this requirement. You can delete your Optidrive account and all associated data at any time:

In-app: Settings → Account → Delete Account & Data
Web: optidrive.io/account/delete
Email: privacy@optidrive.io — Subject: "Account Deletion Request"

Deletion is processed within 30 days. Data retained for legal/fraud prevention purposes is disclosed in Section 3.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) grants you additional rights.

Legal basis for processing:

  • Legitimate interest — Real-time safety detection (camera, LiDAR, motion). Processing is necessary for the safety purpose you downloaded the app for.
  • Contractual necessity — OTA update delivery (Pro subscription).
  • Consent — Crash report sharing (opt-in toggle). You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligation — Financial records retention as required by applicable law.

Your GDPR rights:

  • Right of Access (Article 15) — receive a copy of data we process about you
  • Right to Rectification (Article 16) — correct inaccurate data
  • Right to Erasure / "Right to be Forgotten" (Article 17)
  • Right to Restriction of Processing (Article 18)
  • Right to Data Portability (Article 20)
  • Right to Object (Article 21) — object to legitimate-interest processing
  • Right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior lawful processing

You have the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority. Our Data Protection contact: dpo@optidrive.io. We respond to GDPR requests within 30 calendar days.

International transfers: Anonymous crash data processed by Firebase Crashlytics may be transferred to the US under Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission.

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have the following rights:

  • Right to Know — the categories of personal information collected, the purposes for collection, and any third parties it is shared with
  • Right to Delete — request deletion of personal information we hold about you, subject to certain exceptions
  • Right to Correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing — Optidrive does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. No opt-out mechanism is needed, but is available via Settings → Privacy.
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information — Precise location and camera data are used only for the safety purpose disclosed. You may disable either via device permissions.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination — We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
